Ludacris Earns Prestigious Phoenix Award

Actor-rapper-philanthropist Chris “Ludacris” Bridges was recognized today with the prestigious “Phoenix Award” from the City of Atlanta – the top award someone can earn from the City.

The award showcases Atlantan individuals or groups who have provided notable triumphs to the community, nation and world.

The City Of Atlanta social media pages posted about Ludacris’ contributions earlier today, noting that The Ludacris Foundation – the foundation which the rapper founded – has been “[pouring] into the lives of Atlantans” since its inception two decades ago. Mayor Keisha Bottoms along with the City of Atlanta presented this award to Ludacris.

The award notes, “The City of Atlanta is proud to honor and celebrate Christopher ‘Ludacris’ Bridges for his accomplishments and commitment to uplifting our community through The Ludacris Foundation. Thank you for your impact on our city and across the country.”  

The award lists and congratulates Ludacris’ notable accomplishments, and continues with: “For two decades, The Ludacris Foundation has fulfilled dreams of underserved youth and families in Atlanta.

"As an organization deeply committed to making a difference, the foundation created programs, initiatives, and partnerships aimed at inspiring and empowering the greater community by promoting leadership, service, education, and healthy lifestyles.”

The award also notes that LudaDay Weekend, Ludacris’ Labor Day Weekend celebration is a lucrative event that brings celebrities together to raise money for the community. 

Ludacris retweeted his accomplishment with excitement and vigor for the work he’ll continue doing by commenting, “We just getting started!”

The foundation also showed its gratitude on the Instagram post by writing, “What an amazing honor! Thank you.”

Aside from Ludacris and the foundation showing gratitude for the award, others showed Luda gratitude for his work.

A fan on Twitter replied to Luda’s retweet with: “Ludacris, you are a very talented and wonderful man and GOD will continue to bless you and your Family, Always.”

The Ludacris Foundation Accomplishments

Most recently, Ludacris along with his foundation and an army of volunteers distributed food gift cards to homeless individuals in Atlanta. He also celebrated “Ludacrismas” with the community – a multi-day good deed holiday event which included a party for children staying at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, a pediatric hospital.

During the days of Ludacrismas, his team also donated winter coats to the children at the hospital, and distributed presents throughout the community.

Along with Ludacris, 15 other notable Atlantan individuals or groups earned this award today, too.

The City Of Atlanta also gave Dr. Sanjay Gupta, the chief medical correspondent for CNN, the award today.

The award lauded the neurosurgeon and national medical correspondent for “his commitment to health and providing accurate medical information worldwide.”

Gupta has been a CNN correspondent for 20 years and was the first to announce that the coronavirus epidemic was going to be a pandemic – he announced it before the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization.

Other winners in the slate included Georgia House of Representatives member, Georganna Sinkfield, who is also the first woman to lead the Georgia Black Caucus, and The Honorable Calvin Smyre, who has been the Dean of the Georgia House of Representatives for 40 years.

Previous dignitary winners include Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, Evander Holyfield and Tyler Perry.
